Salinger ~ A New Biography

If you haven't heard, there's a new biography out on J.D. Salinger, my generation's anti-anti-hero and author of an ultimate-coming-of-age book, Catcher in the Rye.  J.D. Salinger is reported to have deeply regretted publishing it, yet still spent the money the sales of 65 million copies generated.

According to a review in The Economist, this biography is, "Full of color and intrigue, “Salinger” can be gripping. It is also exactly the kind of messy, unsubtle, intrusive and speculative work the man himself understandably shunned."

Possible early Viking settlement in North America explored

www.dailymail.co.uk    The new Viking settlement was found on the edge of Point Rosee in Newfoundland (illustrated above) 400 miles south of another site at L'Anse aux Meadows. ROMANCE: People tend to choose a spouse with similar DNA

Source: short-sharp-shock.blogspot.com I  find this result fascinating.  People tend to choose partners with similar DNA?  How do we do this?  Is it smell?  Appearance?  Some psychic connection? Scientists already knew that people tend to marry others who have similar characteristics, including religion, age, race, income, body type and education, among others. Scientists now show that people also are more likely to pick mates who have similar DNA.  As the researchers state, "Individuals are more genetically similar to their spouses than they are to randomly selected individuals from the same population." Researchers create a magnetic 'wormhole' in space
